SMP

Scalp Micro Pigmentation (SMP)

Scalp micropigmentation is a process of hair restoration in which tiny dots of permanent ink are placed into the dermal layer of the scalp, to replicate the look of natural human hair follicles. SMP is a good alternative for patients that have low hair densityand their scalps are easily visible. With the pigments depositedinto the skin, the scalp acquires a ‘colour’ that decreases the hair-skin contrast. This results into a more visible and denser hair appearance.

How SMP Works?

The SMP technique is a non-surgical treatment method that is suitable for all types and stages of hair loss in both men and women. The process helps in the replication of the natural appearance of the real hair follicles to obtain a realistic and natural-looking hairline. It is essentially a method of depositing pigment into the dermal layer of the skin on the scalp, which gives the illusions of hair follicles, with the appearance of a recently shaved head. SMP is colour matched on a greyscale for most clients and can be used to treat clients of very pale complexion to extremely dark skin tones.

The process takes at least 2-3 sessions spaced across one to four weeks, with the results being visible immediately after the first touch. The SMP treatment lasts as long as 2-3 years before you need a retouch.

Are there any Risks of SMP?

Since the procedure is non-surgical, the risks are quite limited, especially when you compare it to the surgical methods of hair treatments. Some of the side effects that you might experience are redness and allergic reactions to the pigments placed below the skin. All our patients that have gone through this process have had an exceptionally positive experience because the method lasts and works effectively, with hardly any side-effects.

Our SMP treatment at Fortes Clinic is available to both men and women who experience hair thinning, baldness, and a receding hairline. Additionally, you are eligible for this method of hair treatment if you have a scar in regions of hair growth. Patients that have already gone through other hair transplant procedures are also eligible for this process.

Through accurate replication of the appearanceof your own natural follicles of hairand their colour, the micro-pigmentation of your scalp can help strengthen and add density to thinning areas leading to an imperceptible illusion of thick, strong hair. At Fortes Clinic, our doctors use cosmetic pigmentation and leading-edge equipment to bring out the desired hairline, increase the density of thinning scalp regions and blend into your existing hair for a perfect finish.

Benefits of SMP Hair Treatment

If this is a procedure you could consider undergoing, here are some of the benefits you should expect:

  • The SMP is applied to both the scalp region with no hair or thinning hair to achieve a natural-looking hairline.
  • It can also be used for eyebrow hairloss treatment where the pigments are placed either between the existing eyebrow hair or on hairless skin in the eyebrow region. This will lead to an instant high-density eyebrow simulation.
  • The SMP technique can also be used to hide scars that were received in the previous hair transplant processes such as that of the strip in FUT. The scar generally left from the region of extraction can be concealed using the SMP technique where the pigments are inserted under the skin where the strip lies.
  • Scalp micropigmentation offers patients anopportunity for the restoration of the appearance of natural follicles of hair that are growing frombeneath the scalp without having to resort to more invasive solutions such as transplants.
  • Even though it does not lead to the natural growth of hair, it excellently improves the appearance of your scalp. This is because it willmimic the look of a clean-shaven head that is newly growing hair. This technique can also bring forward receding hairlines.
